Text messages from Kali Stanford

The text messages described here are sent by Hewmun LLC, which builds and runs the staff and ordering systems of Kali Stanford (HSV Restaurant Group, 290 Jane Stanford Way, Stanford, California), on the restaurant's behalf and under the name Kali Stanford. They come from one number, (650) 300-3928, and go to two groups of people and to nobody else: the restaurant's employees and its food suppliers. No marketing texts are sent to guests.

Privacy policy for text messages

  • Your mobile number is never shared, sold or rented to any third party, and it is not used for any purpose other than the messages described here. It is stored in the restaurant's staff system, which Hewmun LLC operates for Kali Stanford, and in the messaging provider that delivers the texts.
  • Employees receive: the week's schedule when it is published, a reminder when a rest or meal break is due or over, a notice if a clock-out was missed (as a notification on the phone where the employee has allowed it, otherwise as a text), a statement of hours at the end of each pay period, and answers to requests they send to a manager. That is a few messages on a working day and none on a day off.
  • Suppliers receive purchase orders and replies about them, typically one to a few messages a week.
  • Message and data rates may apply, depending on your mobile plan.
  • Every message sent and received on this number is kept in the restaurant's records, as employment and purchasing records are.

Terms of the text-message service

  • How you opt in. Employees opt in on their private staff page by entering their mobile number and tapping I agree under a text that states these terms; the date, time and text are recorded. The screen is shown below. Suppliers opt in in writing, by naming the number at which they receive orders; the script is below.
  • How you opt out. Reply STOP to any message and no further texts are sent to that number. An employee who opts out still receives the same information from a manager in person.
  • Help. Reply HELP to any message, or call (650) 300-3928.
  • Carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

What the employee opt-in looks like

The staff page is private, opened from a link each employee receives. This is the screen, exactly as it appears on a phone, in the two languages the staff use. No text is sent to an employee before they have tapped I agree on it.

The consent screen of the Kali Stanford staff clock, in English: a field for the mobile number, the consent text, and a button reading I agree.
English.
The same consent screen in Spanish: a field for the mobile number, the consent text, and a button reading Acepto.
Spanish.

The consent text in full: “Kali Stanford will text this number about work: your week when it is published, a reminder when a break is due, a note if you did not clock out, and a note whenever a manager corrects a punch of yours. A few texts on a working day, none on a day off. Message and data rates may apply. Reply STOP at any time to end them, HELP for help. Terms and privacy: kalistanford.com/texts. Tapping I agree records the date, the time and this text.”

How a supplier opts in

A supplier is asked in writing, by email from the restaurant, before any order is texted. The message the restaurant sends is this: “Kali Stanford would like to send you our purchase orders by text message, from (650) 300-3928, to the number your sales representative uses for orders, and to receive your replies at the same number. Expect one to a few messages a week. Message and data rates may apply; reply STOP to any message to end them, HELP for help. Terms and privacy: kalistanford.com/texts. Please reply with the number to use, and we will take that reply as your consent.” The supplier’s reply, with the number, is kept with the restaurant’s purchasing records, and the first text to that number confirms the opt-in and repeats the STOP instruction.
